Panhandle Salt Pompano Rig Tough Bite

The Panhandle Salt Tough Bite Rig was designed for those difficult days on the beach. When the water is calm, crystal clear, and there is little to no current, surf fishing can become much more challenging. These conditions often make fish cautious, so oversized floats, heavy leaders, and large hooks can stand out and discourage bites.

All Tough Bite Rigs are built as double-drop rigs with a float on the top hook and a naked hook on the bottom. The hooks are spaced 20 inches apart, allowing the rig to cover more of the water column when fishing deeper areas. We recommend using double-drop rigs when casting into deeper water, troughs, or cuts where fish may be feeding at different levels. The top float helps lift the bait off the bottom, while the lower naked hook keeps one bait closer to the sand. This setup gives you two different presentations on the same cast and helps you quickly determine where the fish are feeding.

Each Tough Bite Rig is tied with 20 lb Perdido Leader (15 lb and 30 lb options are available with the Custom Rig) and built with lighter tackle, a smaller hook, and fewer components to create a more natural presentation. It gives fish just enough to notice your bait without overwhelming them, often turning hesitant fish into bites.
