The 9" Sledge Hammer is a serious bait for serious fish in the Gulf surf. Its long, slender profile does a great job of imitating larger baitfish that cruise the 2 to 6 foot zone, especially mullet, ladyfish, whiting, and other long-bodied forage that predators are keyed in on close to the beach.
While originally designed for shallow inshore structure, the 9" Sledge Hammer translates extremely well to surf fishing where big fish are roaming troughs, cuts, and the outside edges of close sandbars. The bait has a natural swimming action on both the retrieve and the drop, making it a strong option for bull reds, jacks, tarpon, sharks, and other larger surf predators.
Its larger profile helps push water and get noticed in moving surf, stained water, or low-light conditions, while still swimming naturally enough to draw commits from fish feeding tight to the beach. Best paired with a 1 oz 8/0 Hammer Head jig head.
