The 5 1/2" Big Hammer is a great crossover swimbait for the Gulf surf, especially when fish are feeding in the 2 to 6 foot zone close to the beach. Its longer, more slender profile makes it a strong match for smaller baitfish moving through troughs, cuts, and shallow bars, while the erratic tail kick and natural body wiggle give it the kind of action that gets noticed in clear or lightly stained water.
This bait shines when you want a more natural presentation for speckled trout, redfish, bluefish, Spanish mackerel, jacks, and other predators cruising the wash. It works especially well for cast-and-crank fishing in shallower water where fish are actively pushing bait close to shore.
For a standard setup, pair it with an 8/0 1 oz Hammer Head jig head. For a slower fall and a little more hang time in the strike zone, pair it with a 2/0 3/8 oz Hammer Head jig head.
